MOST of us, at one time or another, have a dream to change the world-- make it a clean, safe place to live in, with no worries, no crime, no hardship or poverty. We keep it inside, lest we be ridiculed as dreamers and idealistics lost in our romance with utopia. But that feeling has been gnawing from within, and over the past few years Filipinos in particular have been searching for that elusive inner peace.
Pagbabago@pilipinas is a movement created from this collective yearning for change. It brings together people from all walks of life, from various spheres of influence and diverse cultures and backgrounds, who have the common goal of making the Philippines the country it was meant to be.
The production and release of this 12-song album is one of many steps this movement takes towards that goal. It kicks off with the realization that we have the power to effect change within our realm (Ako Na, Count On Me); it then goes to show us the way through that maze we call our democratic space-- the election of our leaders (Eleksyon Na Naman, Idol, Kaduda-duda, Hindi Mo Ako Mabibili); debunks the myth that a life of honor and virtue-- honesty, integrity and dignity-- is a painful experience (Walang Takip Walang Tinatago, Tanggapin Mo Kung Gusto Mo, Owe U Nothin', Ako Pa, Walk WIth Good); and finally, that it all starts from within us-- whoever and wherever we are in society and the country (Magbabago Ako).
The album has taken almost two years to make by songwriters, arrangers, producers and artists who, in contributing to this album, have shown us that the journey towards change begins from one's self. Listening to these songs and internalizing each one, perhaps we will realize it is possible after all to make the Philippines a better country for us to live in.
